Near the Washington Navy Yard a broad new development project combines historic preservation with construction of new retail, housing and office space. Developer Forrest City was charged with incorporating a public park on the Anacostia riverfront that would attract a wide range of visitors and be self-sustaining.
Town Square was called in to review the design, cost-out operations and lay the groundwork for programming the space. We determined how best to fund the ongoing operations, develop a quality program, and address issues of governance.
The Diner en Blanc organizers had little doubt that the beautiful Yards Park would be a great venue for their event. The Capitol Riverfront BID, which manages the space, welcomes quality public programs that contribute to the maintenance of the space.
The Yards site blends old and new construction, as well as a large lawn, water feature and wading area, boardwalk and terraces
The Yards acomodate all sorts of programs, which drive usage and encourage neighbors to visit and people watch. Here, a Yoga class with views of the Anacostia river.
