At the borders of Chinatown and the Lower East Side in Manhattan, Sara D Roosevelt Park is both bustling with life and marred by decay and crime. To change this, a courageous group of neighbors and interested parties have formed the Sara D Roosevelt Park Alliance, and taken up the responsibility to renovate and improve the park for the benefit of all.

Like others before them in places such as oasis-like Bryant Park or Madison Square Park, they aim for both a physical renovation and the responsibility of assuming maintenance responsibilities for the park. In early 2023 a first success came about as the State of New York awarded $3.2 million towards a renovation, on a grant request submitted by the Alliance supported by a design provided by James Corner Field Operations. This is the beginning of the road to upgrades and improvements to the park.

Town Square is proud to be the ongoing advisor to the Alliance as it plans its action, from fundraising to design or government relations, drawing on the lessons of what historic New York Conservancies have done.
